We hike the Terry Fox Memorial Trail at Sugarloaf Provincial Park, near Campbellton, New Brunswick, Canada.
Yesterday turned out to be a lovely and productive day. I got caught up on a lot of administrative work I had let stack up. (Ah the joys of entrepreneurship!) We took advantage of the nice weather and cooked some homemade hamburgers on our awesome little Webber grill. Andrew is still in the process of installing some of the various antennae he purchased to enable us to get better mobile and wifi signals while on the road and he was able to get a jump on that process yesterday. We also decided we’d stay here, at Sugarloaf Provincial Park a few extra days so we’d have time to get everything installed and catch up on the work we weren’t able to do at off-the-grid Mt. Carleton. We’re also close to shops here if there’s anything we still need to pick up for the installations and it’s a nice park we want to have time to explore.

In fact, we did a bit of exploration yesterday. At the suggestion of a friendly park staff member, we decided to walk the 4.3km Terry Fox Memorial Trail which circles Sugarloaf Mountain. We’re still keen to hike to the top but we’re working up to it and waiting for a day that’s not quite so windy.

The Terry Fox Memorial Trail is part of the Sentier NB Trail, a network of trails that, when complete, will circle and cross the entire province. The trails connect with both the Trans-Canada Trail and the Appalachian Trail and when finished will cover more than 2400km. That’s a lot of potential hiking!

The Terry Fox Trail is wide, gravelled, and accessible to just about everyone. There are some steep sections, but there are plenty of picnic tables and stopping points along the way that serve as rest stops. The trail also connects to downtown Campbellton and there were plenty of locals out enjoying the sunny weather and getting their exercise.

The trail also serves as the access route to the Sugarloaf Summit Trail, so we got a sneak peek of what we’re in for. The trail is steep, rugged, and definitely not accessible. I’ve been told the view is worth it so I’m still hoping to make it to the top.
Today looks like it will be a quiet and work-filled day, both with website work and continuing the motorhome installations.
